Summary

This position is responsible for the day-to-day and long-term implementation of fitness programming. Works with the Fitness and Aerobic Lead and Health Promotions Coordinator to organize, operat, and retain special programs in fitness areas for all members. Overall staff coverage for the fitness areas, special programs, events and classes may be required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

A minimum of one year of experience working with a high volume health and fitness facility is preferred. BCLS required within 90 days of employment. ACE,AFAA,or ACSM in Exercise Specialist and/or Fitness Testing and Implementation preferred. Must have the technical knowledge and ability to apply basic kinesiology, exercise, physiology, exercise testing, and motivation in teaching and interacting with members of the fitness staff. Must have a level of physical conditioning necessary to instruct members in fitness. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have skills to access and work in computer database. Must have exceptional customer service skills. Must have strong interpersonal communication skills and motivational skills to fulfill the needs of co-workers and members. Must possess the technical expertise to perform health risk appraisals and low level strength and conditioning testing and evaluations in accordance with policies and procedures. Must be knowledgeable of the psychosocial and physiological development of children, adolescents, and adults in order to provide appropriate care and intervention.Works mostly inside; some outside activities when appropriate. Physical exertion Involved when assisting members or patients. Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Work will require light cleaning and preparation of the facility. Manual dexterity. Good vision is essential. Sometimes subject to occupational exposures.
