Summary

The Clinical Dietitian collaborates with the interdisciplinary patient care team to provide integrated nutrition care that is compatible with overall goals of care for adult and/or pediatric patients at high risk for nutrition problems in inpatient and/or outpatient areas. Primary duties include screening and prioritization of patient care, nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention and evaluating patient response to nutrition interventions. The clinical dietitian also participates in compliance and quality performance improvement efforts. The Clinical Dietitian precepts dietetic interns, as assigned.

Responsibilities

Nutrition Care o Uses accurate and relevant information and data to identify and prioritize nutrition-related problems. o Assesses nutritional status, plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates nutrition care for patients with a variety of nutritional and medical diagnoses in accordance with published standards of practice in nutrition care and standards of professional performance for registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs). o Integrates nutrition care with other forms of care being provided to patient. o Provides nutrition education and counseling for patients and families in an understandable format. o Documents care in the patient medical record following department standards of care and timeliness.
Coordination of Nutrition Care o Attends and contributes to team meetings, rounds and other care coordination activities as applicable to assigned work areas. o Collaborates with other departments and services to plan and implement patient care as necessary in meeting the nutritional needs of the patient. o Recognizes nutrition problems that require consultation with or referral to another provider. o Participates in discharge planning when applicable. o Participates on interdisciplinary team, division, and department committes and projects.
Dietetic Education o Develops learning activities for dietetic interns, acts as preceptor, and evaluates dietetic intern performance when assigned. o Provides nutrition programs, lectures, and other events to the organization and community as requested or as delegated.
Other o Collects and records productivity data as directed. o Maintains pertinent patient data necessary for quality assurance/performance improvement. Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required o Bachelor’s degree in a nutrition-related field o Registered Dietetian (RD/RDN) credential that is active and in good standing o Flexibility to orient and work at all Carson Tahoe Health locations o Applies for a National Provider Identification Number (NPI) within the first month of employment o Availability to work on-site weekends/holidays along with the possibility of occasional Sunday on-call time
Preferred o Board certification in specialty practice area (e.g. CNSC) o Experience teaching and supervising dietetic interns or other students
