About This Opportunity

Joining our Athletics team, the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach will be responsible for developing and conducting appropriate, safe and effective sports-specific strength, conditioning and performance programming for the Daemen Athletics intercollegiate student-athletes and teams. Essential duties and responsibilities for the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach are:

Coordinate workouts for intercollegiate athletic programs with Coaching staff of each sport during in-season, out-of-season, and summer months.
Develop and track strength and conditioning programs and activities of intercollegiate varsity athletes in collaboration with Sports Medicine staff and sport coaches.
Provide suggested strength and conditioning information to the Daemen University community, including information on proper use of athletic conditioning equipment.
Educate sport coaches and student-athletes on flexibility, strengthening and conditioning programs to help prevent injuries and optimize performance.
Educate, counsel and advise sports coaches and student-athletes on health-related issues, including nutrition and substance abuse in consultation with the Daemen Athletics Sports Medicine staff.
Follow established emergency action plans for Daemen Athletics facilities including off-campus venues.
Follow and assist with enforcement of all policies/procedures as outlined within the AWC Fitness Center policy/procedure manual, including codes of conduct and rules of use for the facility and equipment.
Apply a team approach with the Sports Medicine staff and Coaches to ensure that student-athletes participate only when physically able and that any physician instructions are understood and followed.
Consult with the Sports Medicine Staff for guidance and or training restrictions of injured student-athletes, and report back on their progress and or limitations.
Responsible for maintaining accurate training records and team programs via a file system and or electronic software package (ie: TrainHeroic).
Provide immediate first aid for injuries and refer student-athletes to sports medicine staff and or emergency medical facilities when necessary.
Report all student-athlete injuries, urgent care / emergency facility and physician referrals to sports medicine staff; complete an accident report promptly as needed (e.g. Athletics "excess insurance" claim form).
Maintain privacy of all (new and returning) student-athletes' current contact, emergency contact, health insurance, consent and health-status documents and waivers.
Provide movement screens and or assessments on student-athletes, as needed, to develop an individual preventive or "corrective" exercise plan.
Assist in budgeting, ordering and inventory of AWC Fitness Center / Gymnasium supplies.
Maintains professional credentials by engaging in professional development and satisfying continuing educational requirements set forth by the respective credentialing body (e.g. National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) and or the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as needed.
Operates the program under the rules and regulations of the College, the NCAA, and the ECC; understanding that an employee can be suspended for a period of time without pay or terminated if found to be involved in significant or repetitive violations of NCAA regulations
May require frequent evening and weekend hours; may also necessitate early morning hours.
Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Operations, Asst. AD for Sports Medicine & Performance and/or Athletics Director.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (Exercise Science or related degree)
Maintain current First Aid, CPR/AED certifications
Experience in the design and implementation of workout programs for a variety of sports
Ability to pre/post test student-athletes to demonstrate progress in strength and conditioning of sport programs
Ability to manage students, athletic facilities and/or fitness center.
Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Valid driver's license required. License must meet insurance company rules and regulation for driving underwriting criteria.
Ability to exert up to 25 - 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a neglibile amount of force constantly to move objects, with or without

Preferred Qualifications

Masters Degree and previous collegiate strength and conditioning coaching experience
Ability to implement dynamic and motivating fitness programming.
Ability to supervise groups of diverse individuals
Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills.

Required Professional Certifications

Possess and maintain an acceptable NCAA strength and conditioning certification (at least one of the following) through National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and or College Strength and Conditioning Coach's Association (CSCCa):

National Strength and Condition Assn (NSCA)
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
College Strength and Conditioning Coach's Assn (CSCCa)
- Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC)
- Master Strength & Conditioning Coach (MSCC)

General Physical Requirements

Light/Medium Work: Exerting up to 25-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions

Office & athletics facilities/outdoor settings, but some activities/ duties can occur both inside and outside the office setting.
