The St. James is seeking Masters Swim Coaches to join its Aquatics team at its flagship location in Springfield, VA.

The Masters Swim Coach will support the Director of Swimming at The St. James in coaching adult athletes. A hands-on approach is necessary to effectively manage the quality of experience of our participants and their safety. Should be available on weekday mornings, afternoons and on weekends. Coach will be coaching the STJ Masters swim team and will also have the opportunity to coach private lessons if so desired. This position will report directly to the Director of Swimming at The St. James.



  • Perform all duties in accordance with Company policies, practices and procedures
  • Engages participants in interactive swim practices while maintaining a safe environment
  • Provides instruction to coach participants through improved swimming skills and techniques
  • Demonstrates positive attitude and actions through a display of courtesy, service, cooperation, hospitality, sensitivity, and professionalism to internal and external customers
  • Supports the safety of all members, guests, and employees.
  • Must be able to attend morning practices and evening practices during the weekdays and a morning practice on weekends (usually no more than 1.5 hours of practice a day)
  • Must be a good communicator
  • Must be comfortable writing workouts for varying levels of adult swimmers
  • Must be able to commit to at leas one year of coaching with STJ



  • Infant/Child and Adult CPR/AED required
  • Applicant must have 3+ years of experience as a swim instructor
  • Must be available on weekday mornings/afternoons and on weekend mornings
  • Must be comfortable teaching in the water and on land
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with parents and athletes
  • Knowledgeable of safety training, procedures and best practices used throughout the sports and wellness industry.
